This year, I was able to work during the summer in a health shop downtown. It was amazing how people patronize natural supplements and preparations. Blueberry capsules were one of the most popular products upon my stay there. I was able to ask most of the customers why they liked the product so much. Almost all of them agreed on one thing... that aside from the other benefits of blueberry intake, the result they liked most was that blueberry supplements were able to improve their vision. A few were hesitant but were still convinced by friends and advertisements to try the product for the first time. The capability of blueberries in improving vision has long been well documented and is backed up with detailed research. According to studies, aside from improving vision, blueberries can also reduce eye fatigue, eye irritation due to internal and external conditions, nearsightedness, night blindness and cataract development.
Blueberries contain huge amounts of anthocyanines (which are flavonoid pigments contributing to the coloration of flowers and fruits). Anthocyanines are considered as very powerful antioxidants. There are about 400 mg to 550 mg of anthocyanin in 100 grams of blueberries.
Antioxidants protect the cells from the damaging effects of free radicals in the body. It also strengthens the capillaries and blood vessels of the eyes. With improved blood flow in the eyes, better vision is achieved.
